Card Payments for Salons: Tap to Pay, Square Terminal or Clover

Checkout is built into the waitlist. Mark a client served, confirm the amount, add the tip, take the card. Who processes it is your choice: Stripe with Tap to Pay on iPhone or an Ozync terminal, the Square account and Square Terminal you already have, or Clover at the register. Receipts go out by text, refunds are a tap, and there is no monthly POS fee.

No monthly POS fee. Stripe's card rate plus 20¢ per card payment, or your own Square or Clover rate with nothing added.

Checkout, right after Served

Most salon software bolts a register onto a calendar. Ozync starts from the queue: the client who just sat down is the one you're charging, so checkout opens from their row with the service already on it.

  1. 1Tap Served on the client, then Checkout. Their services and prices are filled in from your menu; adjust or add anything.
  2. 2Choose a payment method: card, cash, or a pay link like Venmo or Zelle.
  3. 3The client sees the amount and picks a tip on the screen facing them.
  4. 4They tap their card or phone. The receipt goes to them by text.
  5. 5The sale, the tip and the staff member land in Transactions and in your daily recap. Refunds are a tap from the same screen.

Pick your card processor: Stripe, Square or Clover

You choose once, under Settings › Payment. Checkout, Transactions and refunds look the same whichever you pick.

  • Stripe, for a salon new to card payments: set up in five to ten minutes from the app, paid out to your bank in about two business days. Take cards with Tap to Pay on iPhone, no reader at all, or with an Ozync terminal at the counter.
  • Square, for a salon already on Square: keep your account, your rate and your Square Terminal. Ozync sends the amount to the Terminal, the client taps, and the money settles with Square as it always has. Ozync adds nothing on top.
  • Clover, for shops that run Clover Station as the register: the Ozync app for Clover puts checkout on the Station's staff screen and takes the card on the client screen, settling in your Clover account at your Clover rate. It is in Clover's App Market review; ask us to be first.
  • Online payments, pay links and online gift card sales run on Stripe, so a Square or Clover salon can connect Stripe for those too. It is optional.

Tap to Pay on iPhone

With Stripe, any iPhone XS or newer is the card reader. The client taps a contactless card, Apple Pay or Google Pay on the back of your phone, the same way they would on a terminal. There is nothing to buy, charge or pair, and a stylist can take the payment at the chair instead of walking the client to the desk.

Ozync is approved by Apple for Tap to Pay. It runs on iPhone; iPads use a terminal.

Pay links: Venmo, Zelle, Cash App and Google Pay

Plenty of salons take Venmo or Zelle and want it recorded like everything else. Turn on the methods you accept under Settings › Payment, and checkout shows a QR code the client scans with their own phone. The sale is logged with the method, so the day's totals are right even when no card was involved. Cash works the same way, and kicks the drawer open if you have one.

The register: printer, cash drawer and till

For a counter with cash, Ozync drives a Star TSP143IV receipt printer and a cash drawer. Cash sales pop the drawer; receipts print if you want paper. The till opens with a float, logs paid-ins and paid-outs, and closes with a blind count that shows over or short and prints a slip. Cash drawer sessions show up in Reports.

Hardware is yours to buy from any supplier, or ask us for a configured kit.

Gift cards

Sell gift cards from your booking website and redeem them at checkout. Cards go to the buyer by email with a code and an Apple Wallet pass; the balance is tracked in Ozync and the redemption shows on the sale. Online gift card sales settle through Stripe.

Pricing

There is no monthly fee for payments. Checkout, Transactions, tips, text receipts, refunds and the register are part of Ozync, which is free for your first 100 clients and then $15 a month billed annually.

With Stripe you pay Stripe's standard card-present rate plus 20 cents per card payment to Ozync. With Square or Clover you pay your own processor rate and Ozync adds nothing.

Ozync vs. salon POS suites

The suites bundle a register with a calendar and charge a monthly POS fee on top of their processing. Ozync is built around walk-ins first, and lets you keep the processor you already have.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which card processors does Ozync support?

Stripe (Tap to Pay on iPhone or an Ozync terminal), Square (your existing account and Square Terminal), and Clover through the Ozync app for Clover Station, which is in Clover's App Market review.

Can I keep my Square account and Square Terminal?

Yes. Pick Square as your processor, pair your Terminal, and Ozync sends each sale to it. Your rate and payouts stay with Square and Ozync adds nothing.

Do I need a card reader?

Not with Stripe on an iPhone: Tap to Pay turns the phone into the reader for contactless cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay. For a counter, an Ozync terminal or your Square Terminal works.

What does Ozync charge per payment?

With Stripe, Stripe's standard card-present rate plus 20 cents per card payment. With Square or Clover, nothing on top of your own processor rate. There is no monthly POS fee.

Can clients tip?

Yes. The tip screen faces the client at checkout with preset amounts and a custom option. Tips are tracked per staff member in Transactions and Reports.

How do refunds work?

From the sale in Transactions, on the web or in the app. Card refunds go back through the processor; cash and pay-link refunds are recorded so the totals stay right.

Can I take Venmo, Zelle or Cash App?

Yes. Turn them on under Settings › Payment and checkout shows a QR code for the client to scan. The sale is recorded with the method.

Does Ozync work with a cash drawer and receipt printer?

Yes. A Star TSP143IV printer and a cash drawer connect to the app; cash sales open the drawer, and the till tracks float, paid-ins, paid-outs and a blind-count close.

Can I sell gift cards?

Yes. Gift cards sell from your booking website, arrive by email with an Apple Wallet pass, and are redeemed at checkout.
